Here at Sledgehammer Games, we honor and respect our country’s veterans. Oftentimes, after returning from duty, veterans experience hardships most of us can’t possibly imagine. Upon returning from service, It’s hard to find work, earn a living wage, and sometimes they are left homeless or without basic necessities. Many of them have families they must provide for and don’t always know where to turn for help.
That’s why each year, Activision organizes a Day of Service to help serve veterans and families in need. It’s our way of lending a hand and helping out, whether that means painting a veteran’s home, putting together food boxes for them and their families, making them warm blankets, or donating and organizing clothing and diapers for them and their children. Thanks to organizations like HandsOn Bay Area and LifeMoves, we are able to do our part and make a positive impact on the veteran community.
At the Ecumenical Hunger Program, we stocked shelves, put together food boxes full of high-protein items, pasta, soup, crackers, snacks, and fruit. We sorted and organized clothing so that vets and their families could come shop and pick out items for them and their children, and at the end of the day, we had the honor and opportunity to listen to one vet’s experience during and after his service. At Family Haven House, we painted two veterans’ homes and met with one vet staying at the facility with his family. On-site at the Sledgehammer Games studio, we made no-sew warm blankets for the approaching winter season.
Giving back to the veteran community is very important to us, and we are thankful for the opportunity to serve. If you’d like to get involved with HandsOn Bay Area or LifeMoves, visit their websites to learn more about how you can help make an impact!
